As the weather gets colder, our cravings for sweet, comfort foods tend to go into overdrive. Unfortunately, most of the traditional wintertime favorites are loaded with sugar. But there’s no need to despair – you can still indulge your sweet tooth without wrecking your diet. Just reach for some natural jaggery instead of refined sugar, and enjoy all the health benefits that come along with it. Jaggery is a type of unrefined sugar that’s made from the sap of various sugarcane plants or from the palms of certain palm trees.

It has a deep brown color and a rich, molasses-like flavor. Compared to regular sugar, jaggery contains more nutrients and antioxidants. It’s also lower on the glycemic index, so it won’t cause spikes in your blood sugar levels. And since it’s unrefined, jaggery retains more of the natural minerals found in cane sugar or palm sap, including iron, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. So how can you use jaggery in your wintertime sweets?

Jaggery can be used as a one-to-one replacement for refined sugar in any recipe. So if a recipe calls for a cup of sugar, simply use a cup of jaggery instead. You may need to make some adjustments to account for its stronger flavor, but overall you shouldn’t have any trouble using jaggery as a direct substitute for white sugar. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

  • Make a healthy version of hot chocolate by mixing unsweetened cocoa powder with jaggery and milk.
  • Add some jaggery to your morning coffee or tea for a touch of sweetness without all the empty calories.
  • Use jaggery to sweeten oatmeal or other breakfast cereals.
  • Make your own candy by boiling equal parts jaggery and water until thickened, then pour into molds or roll into balls.
  • Bake muffins, cookies, or cakes using jaggery in place of white sugar. Just keep in mind that since jaggery is darker in color, it may affect the final appearance of your baked goods.

Why use Aryadhenu Jaggery instead refined sugar

Aryadhenu natural jaggery is made from sugarcane juice, by allowing it to evaporate naturally. It is completely chemical free and has an authentic natural taste. We use our traditional method of processing the sugarcane juice in order to maintain its quality and taste. The process of making jaggery requires a lot of patience as well as precision.

The process involves the following steps:

1) Collecting the Sugarcane Juice: The whole process begins with collecting the sugarcane juice from our own farms with the help of special equipment designed for this purpose. Once we get the sugarcane juice, we immediately start preparing it for further production.

2) Processing the Sugarcane Juice: The next step is processing the sugarcane juice in order to remove any impurities in it. For this purpose, we use special filters which help us remove all dirt and other unwanted particles from the juice. After this step, we are left with pure and clean sugarcane juice which is ready for further processing.

3) Evaporating the Sugarcane Juice: Once we have filtered out all impurities from the sugarcane juice, we start evaporating it in order to get our final product – Aryadhenu natural jaggery. For this purpose, we use special pans made from copper or brass which help us evaporate the water content present in the juice without affecting its quality or taste. The evaporation process takes place over a period of time and requires a lot of patience and precision. Once all the water has been evaporated, we are left with our final product – Aryadhenu natural jaggery which is ready to be consumed!
